Halloween One Remake?

Will the horror classic Halloween be remade?

Dread Central caught up with Malek Akkad (son of Moustapha) and got a response to those “The Weinstein's are going to friggin' remake Halloween!” rumours that have been chortled around the web the past month or so.

Says Akkad, “We have had talks with them about it and it is something we would consider, but we are focusing on getting Halloween 9 made right now. It is a touchy subject because Halloween is such a classic and it still holds up today. It’s a case of why fix what isn’t broken, but we never say never and it's something we are at least considering for the tenth installment but no decision has been made at this point”.

So “Halloween 9” – tentatively titled “Halloween : Retribution” – might be the end of the series as we know it? Then, it’s back to the beginning?

Terminator Will Be Back

Creature-effects supervisor John Rosengrant of Stan Winston Studios confirmed to SCI FI Wire that he has met with director Jonathan Mostow recently about the possibility of a new Terminator movie, but nothing is a go yet. "It's too early to figure out what a new Terminator would look like, or anything like that," said Rosengrant, who was the creatures effects supervisor on the upcoming film Doom.

Rosengrant said it is too early to figure out what a new robot what the future would look like if the franchise were to continue. "You usually don't do that kind of thing," Rosengrant said about designing a new Terminator. "You see the script and what spark comes from that, [talk] with the director and see what the vision is. It does no good to dream it up unless you write a treatment and try to get out there and sell it yourself."

Mostow, who directed Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines, has said he was interested in a fourth Terminator film and commissioned a story written by Terminator 3 screenwriters John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris. Nick Stahl, who starred as John Connor in the third film, is signed for two more sequels.

"I know Jonathan Mostow said he had a script idea for it, and I did talk to him, and he did say that, but I don't know," Rosengrant said. "I keep hearing that there's going to be a Terminator 4. That's all it's been, just rumblings."

More news when it comes....

SCI-FI Channel Acquires Horror Titles. Saw and More

SCI FI Channel has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights to several titles from Lions Gate Entertainment, including the network television premieres of Saw, starring Cary Elwes and Danny Glover and Alone in the Dark, starring Christian Slater, Stephen Dorff and Tara Reid, the network announced. The two films will premiere on SCI FI in 2007. In an unannounced deal earlier this year, SCI FI also acquired the rights to the network television premieres of Lions Gate's Cabin Fever and House of the Dead, which are slated to air in 2006.

In a statement, Thomas Vitale, SCI FI's senior vice president, said that films are a good fit for the network's expanding audience. "We are extremely excited to have the premiere network windows for these Lions Gate titles," he said. "We have a long history with them, and their movies are always enjoyed by the audience of our highly successful Saturday night movie strand."

Other Lions Gate titles in the acquisition include Monster Man, Rottweiler, Leprechaun 3 and Leprechaun 4: In Space.
