Director Talks Behind The Mask Release / DVD
From Fangoria:
The buzz has been building steadily for BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON, the stalker-film mockumentary/homage directed by Scott Glosserman in which a camera crew tracks a young man (Nathan Baesel) determined to follow in the footsteps of Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees et al. So far the film has wowed audiences at numerous festivals and special screenings, and Glosserman says it’s on the verge of receiving wider exposure. “We haven’t closed the deal,” he tells Fango, but an announcement of which companies will be handling BEHIND THE MASK is coming “really soon. We’re hoping for an early 2007 theatrical release in the States, either simultaneously or followed shortly by big-screen play all over the world. Generally there’s about a three-month window between the final theatrical showing and the DVD, so the disc will most likely be out in the first half of ‘07.”
And according to the filmmaker, there’s plenty of supplemental material waiting to be packed onto the DVD. “There’s so much stuff, because we shot a lot,” Glosserman notes. “The documentary part of the movie is very dialogue-intensive, so there’s a ton of dialogue that just couldn’t make it into the film. There are comedic moments and esoteric things that weren’t necessarily integral to the plot, but are nevertheless fun, that we’ll get to throw on the DVD. A couple of scenes in particular: There’s one with Scott Wilson, who plays Eugene [Leslie’s stalker mentor], where he’s describing all the injuries he has sustained in his career, and Leslie asks Eugene, ‘Well, how is it that you’re able to survive these things when they would prove fatal to the rest of us?’ Eugene goes into that, and it’s very funny.

“There’s also going to be a big making-of documentary; we got a lot of footage,” Glosserman continues. “Mount St. Helens erupted when we were location scouting, about 20 miles from us, and there was some funny stuff there. I did a video diary which will be infused into the making-of. Every night, I talked into the camera, and we’ll also include casting sessions and things like that. I’m sure we’ll do an audio commentary, and we may even have Leslie Vernon do one too, which would be very interesting.”
