The Ghost Hunters Visit Shining Hotel

From the Sci-Fi Wire:
SCI FI Channel will film an episode of its hit reality series Ghost Hunters at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colo., inspiration for Stephen King's The Shining. This episode will air in the spring.

According to local legend, King witnessed a ghostly little boy wandering the halls of the hotel during his extended stay there in the early 1970s. Hotel employees and visitors share similar tales of mysterious children in the hallways and guest rooms, as well as of lights flickering on and off and doors opening and closing seemingly by themselves. Like the Overlook Hotel in King's novel, the Stanley has been a popular vacation spot since opening its doors in 1909.

New episodes of Ghost Hunters will premiere on March 29 at 9 p.m.

Toxic Avenger: The Musical

From NY Daily News:

Manhattan B-movie mogul Lloyd Kaufman - the head of Troma Studios and creator of the cult hero known as the Toxic Avenger - is courting the same Broadway angels who backed "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" to develop a musical based on his beloved character. (The Avenger is also the subject of Kaufman's new novel, to be published in May by Avalon's Thundersmouth imprint.) "It's still in the 'bulls-' stage, but that's better than the 'never-gonna-happen' or 'it's dead' stage," Kaufman said. For the uninitiated, "The Toxic Avenger is a hideously deformed creature, of superhuman size and strength, who became an environmental superhero after falling into a chemical vat of toxic waste," Kaufman explained.

Wes Craven Writes Vegas Horror Show

From the SciFi Wire:
Filmmaker Wes Craven (Scream) told fans at WonderCon in San Francisco that he's writing Wes Craven's Magick Macabre, a Las Vegas stage show that will mix magic and horror. "It is a bloody magic show for an 1,800-seat theater in Las Vegas," Craven said in a panel at the comic-book convention over the weekend. "The producer of Riverdance [John McColgan], who bought [the rights to] ... a very bloody, scary magical magic show in Dublin [featuring] a young magician, ... hired me to write a story, which I did. And I'm very excited about it."

Craven, who was promoting his upcoming mutant horror movie The Hills Have Eyes, added that the Vegas show will feature production design by Mark Fisher, the Cirque du Soleil designer who also put together the Rolling Stones' Super Bowl halftime show and Pink Floyd's "Off the Wall" tour. "He brought in the guy [David Mendoza] who designed all of the illusions for Siegfried & Roy and put all of us into a room together, and we came up with [these] really terrific, scary, bloody, crazy ideas that we're going to do for a big show to play in Vegas to scare the pants off of everybody."

Craven offered no further details as to where or when the show might appear.

New 'Friday the 13th' Officially Announced

Jason returns for New Line.

Variety reports:
Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes shingle is coming aboard to produce the 11th outing in the sturdy "Friday the 13th" franchise for New Line.

Studio's hoping to fast-track the project -- centered on the origins of the Jason Voorhees character -- so that the pic can be released three weeks before Halloween on Friday, Oct. 13. Bay will produce with Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.

New Line's hired Mark Wheaton ("Son of the Morning Star") to pen the script. Studio prexy Toby Emmerich is overseeing along with execs Cale Boyter and Jeff Katz.

The original "Friday the 13th" -- set at a reopened camp that had closed 20 years earlier -- took nearly $40 million in domestic grosses in 1980. That's still the best domestic performance in the series, although New Line's spinoff pic "Freddy Vs. Jason" was a solid success in 2003, with $82 million domestic.

Platinum Dunes, which Bay launched in 2001 as a low-budget horror specialist, produced New Line's 2003 remake of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and its upcoming "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning."

Robert Englund Talks Nightmare Prequel, Michael Myers

From B-D:
B-D reporter Elaine Lamkin interview Robert Englund. During the interview Elaine got the skinny on Robert's ABC show "Real Nightmares" along with word on the highly anticipated Nightmare on Elm Street Prequel and, yes, Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael Myers!

Elaine: What can you tell us about the rumored “Nightmare” prequel and “Freddy vs. Jason 2”?

RE: New Line is committed to making at least one more Freddy movie. They have commissioned both a prequel and “Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael Myers”. No word on which one they will actually make or when.

Elaine: What about your old TV show with Freddy?

RE: “Freddy's Nightmares” from the late '80s? It got made by Lorimar, syndicated, stripped too early in some markets and canceled. Bootleg copies of some of the episodes can be found on eBay.

Elaine: Any information about a new TV show with Freddy?

RE: New Line made “Nightmare on Elm Street: Real Nightmares” a reality show that I hosted in which contestants described their nightmares and then were challenged to confront their fears by being put in a situation that evoked their nightmares. For example: a woman scared of clowns was locked in a fun house and terrorized by clowns who appeared out of mirrors and down through the ceiling, etc. For whatever asinine reason they decided not to air it. That's all I know. Oh, it could possibly air on the new CW network.
