Slither Opens In Theaters This Weekend

The new "Clut Classic" Slither is out in theaters this weekend.

More about Slither:The sleepy town of Wheelsy could be any small town in America--somewhat quaint and gentle, peopled with friendly folks who mind their own business. But just beneath the surface charm, something unnamed and evil has arrived and is growing. No one seems to notice as telephone poles become clogged with missing pet flyers, or when one of the town's richest citizens, Grant Grant, begins to act strangely. But when farmers livestock turn up horribly mutilated and a young woman goes missing, Sheriff Bill Pardy and his team, aided by Grant's wife Starla, uncover the dark force laying siege to their town and come face-to-face with an older-than-time organism intent on absorbing and devouring all life on Earth.

Freddy's Nightmares on AOL Televison

'Freddy’s Nightmares' might have only lasted two seasons, but for fans of the 'Nightmare on Elm Street' franchise it's a must-see. An 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' for the slasher set, 'Nightmares' premiered in 1988. Each hour-long episode was hosted by Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) and told the tale of a different denizen on Elm Street being terrorized in some appropriately gruesome manner. Although fans felt the show succeeded in being both frightening and fun, its graphic violence may have led to its early cancellation. Of course, it could also have been the instantly dated special effects that included strange purple lighting whenever someone was about to get 'offed.'

Only five episodes made it to home video in the US, although 12 were released in Britain. In 1990 the show was nominated for Best Genre TV Series at the Saturn Awards (given by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films).

Now you can view 10 episodes of 'Freddy’s Nightmares' at AOL Televison online for free.

Bruce Campbell - Evil Dead Remake Won't Insult Fans

A recent interview with Bruce Campbell in the Penny Blood Magazine reveals a tentative plan for the Evil Dead remake.

"It'll be a whole new story, though. It won't be with Ash." He told the Penny Blood. "It'll be the evil book, and it'll affect a whole new group of people in a different situation. More like a reinvention. A lot of people, they got really crabby on the Internet when they first heard that type of stuff. But, we would never do anything to insult them. The trick is to take that premise - and we think it's a scary premise - and use some cool modern day FX... so we won't have green garden hoses in the shots. We wanna make a flat out, scary-ass, un-rated horror film."

Creature From the Black Lagoon Remake Information

From The Horror Channel:
An inside source just informed me that one of the first bits of casting for Universal's ill-advised remake of The Creature From the Black Lagoon has taken place; veteran creature performer Brian Steele has landed the role of the titular aquatic menace.

You probably don’t know his face since it’s usually behind tons of makeup but some of Steele’s more recent gigs have included lycanthropic shennannigans in both Underworld films, a Hell Knight in Doom and the Drake Monster from Blade: Trinity. He even played the creature in Stuart Gillard’s aptly titled TV movie Creature. Needless to say, the man knows how to be a monster! For a full list of the Steele's work click here to be taken to his official site.

Knitters make their point, from guts o' yarn to zombies

From SeattleTimes.com:

These are not your cute-booties-and-scarves knitters. These are your street-art-and-zombie knitters.

Hannah Simpson admitted she leans toward "subversive subjects," such as knitted figures from her favorite horror flick, "Dawn of the Dead."

"I made four zombies and three 'live' characters — because," as she said, "the zombies had to outnumber the living."

Helmer's heading to 'Wichita'

From Variety:
Busy Dimension taps Bousman for thriller

Weinstein Co. genre arm Dimension Films has acquired tyro scribe Scott Milam's script "Wichita" for "Saw 2" helmer Darren Lynn Bousman to direct.

Bousman -- who has a two-pic deal with distrib Dimension and the Twisted Pictures production banner -- also recently signed to direct the third installment of the hit "Saw" horror franchise for Lionsgate.
Mark Burg and Oren Koules will produce "Wichita," a thriller about an unthinkable crime that destroys the lives of eight characters. Brad Kaplan of Evolution Entertainment, which houses Twisted, brought Milam's script to Bousman.

"I am eager to integrate this new slant on horror with a company known for its revolutionary genre films," the helmer said.
"What's terrifying about this story is that it's based in reality and could happen to anyone," Milam said. "It's a slice of Americana gone bad and getting worse."

Dimension production head Richard Saperstein will oversee the project with Dimension execs Matthew Stein and Alex Franklin.
Dimension has been on a spree of late, ramping up its slate. Shingle recently completed a deal to turn the ABC series "Welcome Back, Kotter" into a feature, with Ice Cube producing and playing the title character.
Dimension also has in the works a bigscreen adaptation of Stephen King's short story "1408," starring John Cusack, as well as another King adaptation, "Cell," to be helmed by "Hostel" director Eli Roth.

Universal Pictures to remake "The Wolf Man"

Some big classic horror news.

From Variety:
Universal Pictures will scare up a new version of its horror classic "The Wolf Man," with Benicio Del Toro playing the title role.

"Seven" scribe Andrew Kevin Walker has begun writing the script. Scott Stuber, Rick Yorn, Mary Parent and Del Toro will produce.

The studio owned the underlying rights to the character.

Like the 1941 original that starred Lon Chaney Jr., new pic will be set in Victorian England. Del Toro will play a man who returns from America to his ancestral homeland, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence.

Deal came out of a series of meetings with the producers, Walker and Del Toro, who collects Wolf Man memorabilia.

Walker spent several months working on some frightening new twists to a familiar tale, adding several characters and plot points that take advantage of cutting-edge visual effects technology.

Walker will turn in his first draft by the spring, and the producers and studio are optimistic that "The Wolf Man" will shoot early in 2007, after Del Toro completes "Guerrilla," the Che Guevara film being directed by Steven Soderbergh.

The expectation is that "The Wolf Man" will be a summer 2008 tentpole.

The pic will be supervised by production president Donna Langley and exec veep Peter Cramer.

Stuber and Parent, the former vice chairmen who moved into a producing deal with U, get their first company credit with the June 2 opening of the Vince Vaughn/Jennifer Aniston comedy "The Break-Up." The company follows with the Owen Wilson/Kate Hudson starrer "You, Me and Dupree" opening July 14, and production begins in June on "The Kingdom," the Peter Berg-directed Jamie Foxx starrer Stuber and Parent are producing with Michael Mann.

Night of the Living Dead 3D Postponed - Again

From Fangoria:
The regional release date for NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD 3D has been postponed once again. Director Jeff Broadstreet gave Fangoria the skinny on the delay: “We are not releasing the film on March 17, due to a couple of issues,” he tells us. “The CG visual effects have taken longer than expected to finish, and we also had a technical problem on the 3-D postproduction end of things that cost us a couple of weeks. So we are now looking at a fall release—probably mid-September, but I don’t have an exact date yet.” There may be a silver lining to the shift, however, as Broadstreet states: “The delay does allow us more time to explore a wider release.”
A Lux Digital Pictures and Midnight Movies presentation from Broadstreet’s genre firm The HorrorWorks, NOTLD 3D is a “reimagining” of Romero’s classic and stars Sid (THE DEVIL’S REJECTS) Haig, Greg (TOOLBOX MURDERS) Travis and Brianna (ENTOURAGE) Brown, with FX handled by Dean and Starr Jones of American Makeup & Effects company. Visit the film’s official site here for a 3-D gallery, trailer and more.

GOJIRA (aka GODZILLA) The Uncut, Japanese Original Available on DVD

GOJIRA (aka GODZILLA)

The complete, uncut, japanese original available on DVD for the first time ever on September 5, 2006. The release is part of a Monster DVD 2-Pack, Which includes both Gojira and the US Version, Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Here is the story below....

- The Monster

NEW YORK, NY – Move over King Kong! Godzilla is back! On September 5, Classic Media will release the complete, uncut, Japanese original, Gojira (Godzilla), on DVD for the first time ever in the US. From legendary Japanese filmmaker Ishiro Honda, Gojira quickly became a monster classic. Gojira will only be available as part of a special DVD 2-pack that also includes the re-edited US version, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, starring Raymond Burr. Both versions have been digitally remastered in HD widescreen. The Gojira/Godzilla: King of the Monsters DVD 2-pack stomps onto retail shelves late summer for $21.98 SRP.

Robert Mayo, SVP of Home Video at Classic Media, said, “It’s really exciting to be able to finally bring this classic film to DVD for the American audience. Fans have been looking forward to the release of Gojira for several years.”

For more information and updates closer to release date, fans can log onto www.godzillaondvd.com.

A Monster Metaphor
Ishiro Honda’s 1954 black-and-white classic spawned a new genre called the “kaiju eiga” or, Japanese monster movie, giving way to countless sequels. With its 50th anniversary theatrical re-release in 2004, audiences rediscovered the strong anti-nuclear message of the original Gojira film.

Gojira contains 40 minutes of footage that was not seen as part of the re-edited, re-dubbed Americanized Godzilla: King of Monsters. In the US version 40 minutes were cut and 20 minutes of new scenes were added, starring Raymond Burr as an American reporter. As a result, the original tone of the movie was changed and the anti-H-Bomb message dropped.

Eli Roth to Helm Stephen King's 'Cell'

Variety reports:

Stephen King's novel is a throwback to his early apocalyptic horror novels. In a single moment, a pulse sent out through cell phones around the world turns every phone user into a crazed, murderous zombie.

Mike Fleiss and Chris Briggs, who with Roth produced "Hostel" and are readying the sequel, will produce "Cell."

Deal marks Dimension's second deal with King, as the studio prepares to cast the Mikael Hafstrom-directed adaptation of the King novella 1408, which Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski adapted. Dimension topper Bob Weinstein said the fast progress to production on that thriller helped the studio's cause with King's new bestseller.

"The combination of technology and horror is fun high-concept," Weinstein said. "And Eli will make it right after he finishes 'Hostel 2.'

"Roth wants to write the pic or co-write it, depending on the time constraints created by his horror sequel, which shoots in Prague.

Roth first dialed in with Bob and Harvey Weinstein when they were pitched "Hostel" by exec producer Quentin Tarantino. The brothers felt the film was too violent, but Roth said they told him later they'd made a mistake and they were determined to get the next one.

Roth said King is his favorite writer and accepted right after reading the book.

"I couldn't put it down. It was such a balls-out horror movie with a smart take on the zombie genre," Roth said.

Project will be steered by Dimension production head Richard Saperstein, senior veep Matt Stein and Brendan Deneen, with CAA repping both the book and director.

Halloween 9 and Halloween Remake Rumors

From The Move Hole:
"Halloween 9" has been on the cards for longer tme and several directors have had meetings about directing it (including John Carpenter).

While the Weinstein's HAVE decided to remake that first "Halloween" - yep, new Laurie Strode - there is still a rough plan to do one more in the current series too. I'm not sure whose script they'd be using for this one, one of the best horror filmmakers around at the moment has been in contact about directing it.

Dante Tomaselli, whose "Desecration" and "Horror", has been in contact with those-that-matter to see if he can't take the reigns on "Halloween 9", according to "JoBlo.com.

Speaking in the Guts and Glory forum, the new prince of gore says "I'd love to direct Halloween 9. I really would. Halloween is my all time favorite movie. I saw it on my birthday in 1979. I was 9".

Tomaselli told the film's producers that "I'd want to bring back the spirit of the original Halloween", apparently, and that includes using Jamie Lee Curtis just "one more time".

Should he get the gig, Tomaselli says he'd love to get some of the franchise's most famous on-camera and off-camera talents to do cameos - including director John Carpenter - and if possible, he'd love to entice actor Bill Paxton, of "Titanic" and "Aliens" fame, to play a role in the film.

SAW III For Halloween 2006

LIONSGATE AND TWISTED PICTURES ANNOUNCE SAW III FOR HALLOWEEN 2006

SANTA MONICA, CA, and VANCOUVER, BC, March 2, 2006 – Lionsgate (NYSE and TSX: LGF), the leading independent filmed entertainment studio, and Twisted Pictures today announced plans to develop and produce Saw III, the next film in the psychologically intense and disturbing horror franchise, for an October 27, 2006 wide release. The film will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II), with story by Leigh Whannell and James Wan (Saw, Saw II) and screenplay by Whannell. The Twisted Pictures team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules will return as producers with Whannell and Wan set to executive produce. The announcement was made by Peter Block, Lionsgate President of Acquisitions and Co-productions, Jason Constantine, Lionsgate Senior VP of Acquisitions, and the Twisted Pictures team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules.

Saw II set a Lionsgate record with a three-day opening weekend of $31.7 million last Halloween, becoming the widest release in Lionsgate history and achieving one of the best opening weekends ever for a horror sequel. With a domestic box office of over $87 million and more than $148 million in worldwide theatrical box office, Saw II easily eclipsed the $55 million domestic box office total of the original Saw. Saw and Saw II have grossed nearly $250 million in combined worldwide box office.

Saw II debuted as the #1 DVD in North America two weeks ago, becoming the fastest-selling theatrical DVD release in Lionsgate history with 3.9 million units sold in its first week alone. The movie was also released on VHS and UMD. The Saw franchise has sold nearly 10 million units to date for Lionsgate.

“Yes, there will be more blood,” said Block and Constantine. “Saw III will involve the same creative forces responsible for the tremendous success of Saw II. The Twisted team of Mark and Oren, along with Darren, James and Leigh, have all agreed to be prominently involved in Saw III. We are proud to be partnered with some of the most disturbing creative talents on the planet, and the Saw franchise will ensure that gore becomes every bit as much a Halloween staple as ghosts, goblins and candy corn.” Block noted that the film will be dedicated to Twisted Pictures principal and Saw producer Gregg Hoffman, who passed away in November 2005.

“We have been discussing story lines that extend the Saw franchise to new limits and beyond with Lionsgate for the past several months,” said Burg and Koules. “The most important element of any franchise is remaining true to the roots of its success. We believe that we are developing a script that is certain to please the Saw franchise’s core fans while adding fresh, terrifying and unimaginable new twists to the Saw saga. Jigsaw himself would be proud.”

Saw III joins an upcoming Lionsgate slate that includes Trent Cooper’s Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector (March 24), the inspirational Akeelah And The Bee, starring Laurence Fishburne, Angela Bassett and Keke Palmer (April 28), the provocative Sundance sensation Hard Candy (April), Lionsgate’s first entry in the Spanish-language feature film marketplace, La Mujer de mi Hermano, starring telenovela sensation Barbara Mori (April) and the horror film See No Evil, starring WWE superstar Kane (May 19).

Lionsgate is the premier independent producer and distributor of motion pictures, television programming, home entertainment, family entertainment and video-on-demand content. Its prestigious and prolific library is a valuable source of recurring revenue and a foundation for the growth of the Company’s core businesses. The Lionsgate brand is synonymous with original, daring, quality entertainment in markets around the globe.Twisted Pictures is helmed by Mark Burg and Oren Koules. Saw, one of the most profitable films of 2004, was their first picture under the new label and was also distributed by Lionsgate. Twisted is currently in postproduction on Catacombs, the first film under the previously-announced nine-picture deal between Twisted and Lionsgate, and is in production on Silence for Universal Pictures.
