In addition, DVDs from the first season of the critically lauded series are being distributed by IDT Entertainment’s Anchor Bay Entertainment.

Joining the roster of directors this season are Brad Anderson ("Session Nine", "The Machinist"), Ernest Dickerson ("Bones", "Demon Knight"), and Tom Holland ("Fright Night", "Child's Play"). Returning for a second outing are directors Dario Argento ("Suspira", "Terror at the Opera"), John Carpenter ("Halloween", "The Thing"), Joe Dante ("The Howling", "Gremlins"), Mick Garris ("Riding the Bullet", "The Stand"), Stuart Gordon ("Re-Animator"), Tobe Hooper ("Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Poltergeist") and John Landis ("An American Werewolf in London").

So far the following 10 episodes have been confirmed:

• "Family", directed by John Landis and written by Brent Hanley, tells the story of a young married couple (Meredith Monroe and Matt Keeslar) that moves into a new home in a new city and finds out that their neighbor (George Wendt) is not what he seems.
• "Pelts", directed by Dario Argento, written by Matt Venne, adapted from F. Paul Wilson’s short-story, is an erotic tale about stolen raccoon pelts that violently turn against those that covet them in this Giallo-style adaptation of F. Paul Wilson’s short story. Meatloaf and John Saxon star.
• "The Damned Thing", directed by Tobe Hooper, inspired by Ambrose Bierce’s classic short-story and written by Richard Christian Matheson, is the apocalyptic tale of a monstrous force that devastates Sheriff Kevin Reddle’s family and his small Texas town. Sean Patrick Flanery, Marisa Coughlan and Ted Raimi star.
• "Pro-Life", directed by John Carpenter, written by Drew McWeeny & Scott Swan, tells the story of a young girl trapped inside a clinic, that discovers the only thing more dangerous than her pursuers is the demonic secret that she carries within her. Ron Perlman, and Caitlin Wachs star.
• "The V Word", a vampire film directed by Ernest Dickerson and written by Mick Garris, reveals the punishment visited upon two teenage boys who make the very poor decision to break into a mortuary. Michael Ironside stars.
• "Sounds Like", directed and written by Brad Anderson, adapted from a short-story by Mike O’Driscoll, tells the story of Larry Pearce - an ordinary man blessed with a gift of extraordinary supernatural hearing that drives him to the brink of insanity and forces him to take violent action to silence the horrific cacophony in his head.
• "The Screwfly Solution", directed by Joe Dante, written by Sam Hamm and adapted from the Raccoona Sheldon short-story, is about a nightmare virus infecting our nation, transforming men into psychotic killers who attack every woman that crosses their paths.
• "Valerie On The Stairs", directed and written by Mick Garris from a Clive Barker original screen story, tells the tale of a novelist who discovers there are fates worse than literary anonymity in this sexually-charged tale of terror.
• "We Scream For Ice Cream", directed by Tom Holland from David J. Schow’s adaptation of John Farris’ short-story, depicts a local ice cream man who, in this case, is turning sweet-toothed children against their parents.
• "The Black Cat", directed by Stuart Gordon and written by Gordon & Dennis Paoli, has the great Poe, out of ideas and short on cash, tormented by a black cat that will either destroy his life or inspire him to write one of his most famous stories.

Spotnitz Writing X-Files 2

From the SciFi Wire:
Frank Spotnitz, the mastermind behind much of the mythology of The X-Files, told SCI FI Wire that he has signed on to help write the next movie based on the hit series, but that the new movie won't deal with the show's byzantine conspiracy arc. "There's still a very good chance that we will all do another X-Files movie," Spotnitz said in an interview. Spotnitz was an executive producer on the show, which starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson; it ended its nine-year run in 2002.

One point of contention in getting a second X-Files film off the ground: Series creator Chris Carter is still wrangling with 20th Century Fox over legal matters. "David, Gillian and I, and even Chris Carter, all have deals in place, and once the legal issues are over with, we will go on with it," Spotnitz said. "I'm hoping it will get resolved soon."

Although the script isn't written, the idea is already developed, Spotnitz said. He added that Fox likes the idea, which hearkens back to the series' stand-alone episodes rather than the conspiracy to cover up the existence of extraterrestrials, which was the subject of the first X-Files movie.

"No, we're not going into the mythology [in the sequel]," Spotnitz said. "One of the things that was exciting about doing it is to not make it a mythology story, and it's like one of the stand-alone episodes. It's a bit scary. Of course, we will catch up with the characters and what is going on in their lives, but it's not about the alien conspiracy. It's not about that." The first X-Files movie came out in 1998.

Man Dressed As Freddy Krueger Arrested In Stabbing

LOS ANGELES -- A man dressed as horror movie villain Freddy Krueger, all the way down to 6-inch knives on his gloved fingers, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a man on Hollywood Boulevard.

Police said the stabbing occurred Saturday evening, just down the street from the fabled Grauman's Chinese Theatre, where Hollywood stars have left their footprints in cement for decades.

Joseph Zachary, 25, was booked for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said the stabbing occurred after Zachary got into an altercation with a 37-year-old Hollywood man.

People in the area are often dressed as characters from films, and officers said they arrived to find Zachary decked out as the villain from the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies.

Cemetery Man DVD

Great horror films are like zombies – the best ones always come back!

On Tuesday, June 13th, Anchor Bay Entertainment, an IDT Entertainment company, will release the eagerly-awaited U.S. DVD premiere of Cemetery Man , one of the most requested horror titles of the last decade. Revered by consumers and industry critics alike for releasing classic and cult horror films, Anchor Bay continues that tradition for Cemetery Man (aka Dellamorte Dellamore ) with a new anamorphic widescreen transfer, and resurrected with a SRP of $19.98.

Directed by Michele Soavi, Cemetery Man stars Rupert Everett ( My Best Friend's Wedding and the voice of Prince Charming in Shrek 2 ) as Francesco Dellamore, a cemetery caretaker who finds that his seemingly dead-end job has recently become a little harder. Along with his sidekick Gnaghi (Francois Hadji-Lazaro), Francesco spends his days interning corpses and his nights killing “returners” – those who have risen from their grave seven days after burial. Life changes for Francesco when he falls for a beautiful, mysterious widow (Anna Falchi). When fate intervenes, Francesco must choose between Love Eternal and the Living Dead…

Ever since its release in 1994, Cemetery Man has shocked and tickled with its unique balance of the macabre and the comical. Anchor Bay Entertainment dug deep to find bonus features worthy of the film's reputation, including:

- Widescreen Presentation (1.66:1), enhanced for 16x9 TVs
- Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound
- Death is Beautiful: The Making of Cemetery Man featuring all-new cast and crew interviews including director Michele Soavi, star Anna Falchi and more

New Friday The 13th On Hold

From Fangoria:
The unlucky nature associated with the number 13 may be spelling bad news for the upcoming Fridat the 13th film, which began drawing lots of buzz in February and has been the hub of misguided rumors ever since. The last few weeks have ushered a new slice of web-originated gossip which apparently rings very true: the FRIDAY project has been put on indefinite hold.

Set up at Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, Friday The 13th had attracted scribe Mark Wheaton and director John Liebesman. Together they were ready to breathe new life into the franchise, based on a proposal that set out to not necessarily remake the original 1980 film, but not give fans a direct sequel either.

Now, Fangoria has received a number of specifics from various sources as to why FRIDAY has stalled out, and all share the common claim that the issue lies with who owns the rights and whether those parties are getting their fare share of the money being made from the new project. “If that’s the case, then you certainly know more than we do here,” Platinum Dunes’ Brad Fuller tells Fangoria. “I mean, that kind of talk doesn’t even filter in this far to us. But I will say that, yes, Friday The 13th has been put on hold until that’s all figured out.”

For more information head on over to the Fangoria website.

First Pic Of The New Pumpkinhead

From Fangoria:
Above is the first exclusive pictures from PUMPKINHEAD: ASHES TO ASHES, currently shooting in Romania under the direction of Jake (EVIL ALIENS) West. The film is a direct sequel to the 1988 original, effectively sidelining 1994’s PUMPKINHEAD II: BLOOD WINGS, and sees the return to the franchise of Lance Henriksen as the ghost of his character from the first film, Ed Harley.

ASHES TO ASHES is shooting back to back with PUMPKINHEAD: LOVE HURTS (they were announced as PUMPKINHEAD 3 and 4, but it has now been decided to drop the numbers from the titles). This film retains Henriksen’s ghostly presence and has the same crew, including Tunnicliffe’s FX team and cinematographer Erik Alexander (BROKEN) Wilson, but is directed by Mike (ROOM 6) Hurst, helming his fourth horror feature in 12 months. LOVE HURTS is a more darkly comic tale than West’s film, with Pumpkinhead introduced into a plot modeled on ROMEO AND JULIET (!).

ASHES TO ASHES will be shown on the Sci Fi Channel in October, with LOVE HURTS following in 2007; limited theatrical releases are also being considered.

For more information on PUMPKINHEAD: ASHES TO ASHES and another picture head on over to the Fangoria website!!

Monsters HD's - Mummy’s Day

Monsters HD Unwraps Eight Mummy Movies in High Definition - Including Universal’s Classic Mummy Series and Don Coscarelli’s Contemporary Cult Comedy Bubba Ho-Tep

Mothers. We all have them. They give us life, they raise us, feed us, nurture us, and, well, mother us, and then send us off into the big, bad world. So it should come as no surprise that we have a holiday every year to honor our mothers, since they truly do deserve it. But what about mummies? After all, many of these people were living gods, people of great power and influence, which is why their remains have been entombed as such. People are still fascinated with them, as evidenced by the recent King Tut exhibit in Los Angeles in 2005. Stephen Sommer’s 1999 MUMMY remake and its sequel, THE MUMMY RETURNS (a third film is in the works), along with Universal’s popular theme park attraction in Hollywood and Anne Rice’s bestselling MUMMY novel have revitalized the public’s interest in mummies. So don’t the great gods of ancient Egypt deserve their own holiday? This year, Monsters HD is doing something about it with their “Mummy’s Day Marathon” of classic mummy movies, featuring horror icons like Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney, Jr., and Bruce Campbell!

So when you’re finished showering your mom with flowers, cards, and chocolate, take a couple of hours out to remember your favorite mummy with the Monsters HD “Mummy’s Day Marathon” on May 14. It’s the movie marathon that only a mummy could love!

About Monsters HD
It’s Alive! Launched in October 2003, MONSTERS HD is television’s first and only, definitive channel dedicated to the popular horror & creature feature category. Halloween 9 - The Missing Years

Some big news from MovieHole.net

Jake Wade Wall talks about Halloween 9.

Halloween : The Missing Years
"I’ve been hired three different times for it”, says Wade Wall, of the ninth “Halloween” movie (at one stage titled “Halloween Retribution”). “And at times it was really exciting, and at other times, it really wasn’t. Then, with the whole Miramax debacle, everything kind of stopped on their franchises for a while. Having said that, it looks like it’s finally set to go. “I know that they’re in the process of nailing down a really big director…but I haven’t been able to figure out who it is yet”. Good news for the film, but not necessarily for Jake – whose words might be toyed with. “The problem is, that whoever this big director is, apparently fancies himself a bit of a writer-director. I do know that it’s my script that they’re going off, but that’s about it…

The self-confessed “amazing idea” he came up with for this latest film, “Halloween : The Missing Years”, involves filling in the mislaid days of Michael Myers formative years. “I wanted to breathe new life into the franchise…something new”, says Wade Wall, explaining that we never found out much about what happened to Myers before he first escaped the mental institution as a younger.

So would Jamie she Lee Curtis be involved in the new movie? “No. Didn’t she get her head chopped off or something in the last one? What I wanted to do was to say, forget about all of those old characters. This is about Michael. There will be new characters – new kids. And it will be set around Michael’s real home ‘Smith’s Grove’, which is where the asylum was, some 150 miles away from Haddonfield”.

Speaking of everything Michael Myers, Robert ‘Freddy’ Englund has apparently been trying to convince New Line and Dimension to team up on a “Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael” movie, but the Akkads, the owners of the ‘Michael’ character – and consequently, the “Halloween” series – aren’t going to play ball. “The Akkads are very protective of Michael. They’re amazing people…I don’t think it’ll happen”, says Wade Wall.

For more information on Jake Wade Wall other films. Head on over to the MovieHole.net and check out the rest of the story.

Spike TV To Honor Horror Films and Shows

From Reuters:
Spike TV, the cable network that targets young men, is set to launch an awards show devoted to the booming horror/science fiction genre.

The Viacom-owned channel is working on "Scream 2006," which likely will air in October. "Scream" is scouting Los Angeles locations to shoot the event in September.

"There is so much to celebrate when you look to recent box office successes from 'Silent Hill' and 'Scary Movie 4' to television's 'Lost,"' said Casey Patterson, senior vp event production and talent development at Spike TV.

"Scream" will honor the best in film, TV, video games, comic books and music with a mix of serious awards for outstanding past and present people or programing to such light categories as highest body count in a movie and best blood-curdling scream."

"We want to have some fun, too, because it's Spike and the nature of the genres we're honoring," Patterson said.

"Scream" fits with Spike TV's strategic shift in favor of action-oriented programming like the upcoming series adaptation of theatrical "Blade."
