Earth Remake Eyes Christmas '08 Release

Twentieth Century Fox has staked out a Christmas 2008 release date for its upcoming remake of the classic Sci-Fi movie The Day the Earth Stood Still, Variety reported.

The movie, which will star Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, was originally slated for May 9, but the film hasn't begun production yet, with potential strikes looming in Hollywood.

The movie will update Robert Wise's 1951 original, about the visit of an alien who warns the Earth to change its violent ways or face destruction.

The Burrowers Web Series Due

Writer-director J.T. Petty is setting the stage for his forthcoming horror film The Burrowers with a webisode series set to premiere on the horror Web site/on-demand service FearNet, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The seven three- to five-minute episodes are based on the film and tell the story of a family trying to survive in the wilderness who unknowingly release an evil force when they ingest infected deer meat.

The series will debut in December on FearNet.com and FearNet's VOD channel, along with a live blog hosted by Petty that features his production and behind-the-scenes insights.

Burrowers, written and directed by Petty, chronicles the tale of a rescue party that becomes the prey of a band of underground creatures. Slated for release in 2008 by Lionsgate, it stars Clancy Brown, William Mapother and Sean Patrick Thomas.

Strap your hockey masks on one more time, Jason is back. STYD got the exclusive news on Platinum Dunes' Friday the 13th film.

A tipster phoned in to tell STYD that Dunes is putting their proposed Friday the 13th on the pre-strike roster with the aim to begin shooting sometime in early 2008. The Dunes team, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, we've been told, have also officially locked a new pair of writers to tackle the property...Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.

This duo, we're sure you recall, ultimately won out and penned 2003's successful Freddy vs. Jason after New Line had spent years developing the big screen battle royale. Platinum Dunes has faced its share of struggle dragging a new Friday the 13th out of the mire; Jonathan Liebesman (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) was attached as a director. No word yet if Liebesman is still attached.

Lionsgate Launches Official Saw IV Website

Dario Argento's Mother of Tears News

It has been reported that Anchor Bay and the Weinstein Company are putting the finishing touches on co-acquiring Dario Argento's highly-anticipated "Third Mother" film, The Mother of Tears, which played at this year's Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival. This would be the third film acquired by The Weinstein's playing at this fest next to George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead and the French thriller Inside. No word on if the film is going theatrical and then to home video.
