Friday the 13th Remake News

C.H.U.D. has come up with some spoilers for the Friday the 13th remake!

"Remaking Friday the 13th is actually more complicated than you might think. After all, there's no Jason Voorhees in the first film - his mom is the killer. And there's no hockey mask until Part III. It took until Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter for the classic Jason look and mythology to be really finalized. So what do you do when attempting to make a 21st century version? Do you really remake the first, with Mrs. Voorhees as the killer? How do you deal with the now cliched aspects of the slasher genre? Do you even need to bring back any elements from the original films, or do you just do a reboot?" Click on over to C.H.U.D. to read the rest!

Return to Castle Wolfenstein On Hold

Writer/director Roger Avary told SCI FI Wire that he is almost done with the script for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, his adaptation of the hit video game, which he hopes to direct, but added that everything is on hold until the writers' strike ends.

Avary, who is co-writer with Neil Gaiman of the upcoming animated film Beowulf, said in an interview Nov. 3 that he "is almost done with the script and am proud of it, but everything as far as the production date and that kind of thing won't be decided on until after all this [is] over. And I fully support the strike."
Avary said the film will be based on a Commodore 64 game and will be a lot like "a World War II old movie of guys who are out on a mission, but this one will have the addition of monsters and horror and a lot of craziness all mixed together. We will start it when it is the right time."

Avary said he did research into the paranormal, the American military and the Nazis. Avary, who won an Academy Award for Pulp Fiction with Quentin Tarantino, also wrote Silent Hill, which is also based on a video game.

X-Files Stars, Crew Reunite For Secretive Sequel

Fans of "The X-Files" no longer have to rely on Internet rumors to seek the truth about a sequel to the 1998 movie based on the popular TV series.

On Wednesday, Fox announced production will start December 10 on the sequel, which reunites the show's stars, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. The studio also picked July 25 as the U.S. release date.

Series creator Chris Carter will direct the still-untitled film. Carter also co-wrote the screenplay with "X-Files" veteran Frank Spotnitz. The duo also are producing. Shooting will take place in Vancouver.

The studio is staying little about the film's story line. All that is being revealed is that it is a "supernatural thriller" and that the movie will take the complicated relationship between FBI agents Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) in unexpected directions as Mulder continues on his quest for the truth and Scully remains inextricably tied to her partner's pursuits.

The July 25 release date would put "X-Files" up against "Step Brothers," a comedy starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, and an untitled comedy starring Ice Cube.

Fox's "X-Files" ran for nine seasons, ending in 2002. The first feature film, produced by Carter and co-written with Spotnitz, grossed $187 million worldwide.
