Haunting And Brutal, Acclaimed Festival Hit Arrives On DVD April 28th

A young woman’s quest for revenge against her tormentors leads her into a living hell of depravity when the groundbreaking horror-flick MARTYRS debuts on DVD April 28th from Genius Products and The Weinstein Company. From writer-director Pascal Laugier (House of Voices, upcoming Hellraiser remake), the “masterpiece that transcends the genre” (Dread Central), MARTYRS has screened at major film festivals including the Cannes Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and Screamfest LA, and was nominated for Best Film at the 2008 Catalonian International Film Festival. Lucie, a 10 year-old girl, is found wandering in the streets, bruised and bloodied. The police quickly learn that the girl has been held hostage for most of her life in an empty, freezing room in an abandoned slaughterhouse. Filthy, starving and dehydrated, the child's body shows no signs of sexual abuse, but rather something far more maniacal. Fifteen years later, unspeakable horrors unfold as Lucie sets out to get revenge on her merciless attackers. “A ruthless, violent explosion of terror” (Ain’t It Cool News), MARTYRS is “one of the most ferocious horror films ever made” (FearNet.com). With a 55-minute behind the scenes featurette entitled Chroniques Organic: The Making of Martyrs and more.

Robert Rodriguez To Start 'Machete'

From Variety:
Robert Rodriguez is ready to cut a wide swathe, and his plans include re-launching the "Predator" franchise for Fox and co-directing "Machete."

For the later, the filmmaker will create a feature out of the blade- wielding antihero who appeared in a mock trailer that was part of "Grindhouse."

Rodriguez is eyeing a June start date in Austin for "Machete," a film that is financed and produced by Overnight Productions, with Danny Trejo starring as the title character.

Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.

Rodriguez wrote the script and will direct the film with Ethan Maniquis, his longtime editor. The film is being produced by Rodriguez, Rick Schwartz of Overnight Productions and Aaron Kaufman.

Not immediately clear is whether Rodriguez and Overnight will find a way to use the irresistible marketing slogan that appeared in the "Grindhouse" trailer: "This time, they fucked with the wrong Mexican." It is the first non-studio movie that Rodriguez has directed since "El Mariachi."

Jackie Earle Haley Is Freddy Krueger

It should come as no surprise then that Jackie Earle Haley is playing Freddy Krueger. He was the only person we ever considered for the role.
We can't make all the fans happy, but those of you who are open to a new version of the Nightmare story have to be as excited as we are. Come on people, an Academy Award Nominated actor is playing Krueger. This was no small accomplishment, but everyone involved wanted it to happen. We all know that Jackie is an unbelievable actor, but I want to let you in on something you might not know. Sam, Drew and I had drinks with Jackie and were elated to learn that he is just like us. He is a huge fan of horror, and well aware of the rightful place Freddy Krueger holds in the horror pantheon. Quite simply, he knows what he has to do, and is very up to the task.
