The Horror Movie Massacre List

Demented Death Farm Massacre (1972)

A gang of four thieves, having stolen over a million dollars worth of gems, are driving through the remote hill roads of the Carolinas when their jeep runs out of gas. A local moonshiner and his wife offer the strangers a place to stay until they can get help, but the thieves soon take advantage of their hosts. Both the moonshiner's young wife and his supposed hidden fortune prove to be irresistable temptations for the fugitives, but will their greed and jealousy prove to be their downfall?

Drive-In Massacre (1974)

Basically the final act of Peter Bogdanovich's Targets stretched to feature length (and without any redeeming subtext), this weak slasher thriller involves a psycho who stalks unsuspecting moviegoers with a variety of sharp implements, particularly a massive sword, during a drive-in screening of a cheesy western. This naturally leads to various scenes of necking patrons being shish-kebabbed with the weapon of choice.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

This sensational, extremely influential, 1974 low-budget horror movie directed by Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist, Lifeforce, Salem's Lot), may be notorious for its title, but it's also a damn fine piece of moviemaking. And it's blood-curdling scary, too. Loosely based on the true crimes of Ed Gein (also a partial inspiration for Psycho), the original Jeffrey Dahmer, Texas Chainsaw Massacre follows a group of teenagers who pick up a hitchhiker and wind up in a backwoods horror chamber where they're held captive, tortured, chopped up, and impaled on meat hooks by a demented cannibalistic family, including a character known as Leatherface who maniacally wields one helluva chainsaw. The movie's powerful sense of dread is heightened by its grainy, semi-documentary style--but it also has a wicked sense of humor (and not that camp, self-referential variety that became so tiresome in subsequent horror films of the '70s, '80s, and '90s). OK, in case you couldn't tell, it's "not for everyone." But as a landmark in the development of the horror/slasher genre, it ranks with Psycho, Halloween, and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Massacre at Central High (1976)

David is the new kid at Central High. The only person he knows is Mark, who runs with the local toughs led by Craig. David keeps his distance, preferring not to join the "club." He tries to convince the other students not to be pushed around, and intervenes once too often on their behalf. When he directly becomes a victim of Craig and the boys, David orchestrates a plan that causes an attrition problem amongst the members of the clique. Mark worries for his safety, even though he and David were once friends.

Naked Massacre (1976)

A household of young nurses becomes a Hellhole of horrors when a young American with a violent anti-female rage subdues and terrorizes them. Marti Gras Massacre

Mardi Gras Massacre (1978)

Low rent semi-remake of Blood Feast (1963) - the movie that broke the barrier in showing gore on screen. In this version of the same story, instead of an Egyptian character we have a deranged Aztec high priest as the main character. A serial killer in a welder's mask stalks the streets of New Orleans during the Mardi Gras festival. He is a strange intense-looking guy who shows up at a bar which is also home to the town's prostitutes. He tells the chicks that he wants the most evil woman in the bar. The head ho points him into the direction of a fat breasted brunette. She tells him, 'I could win first place in any evil contest', and away they go. The Aztec priest takes her back to his place and makes her strip. He then ties her to a table in his basement and begins doing some magical ritual with baby oil that makes her nipples rise. He then proceeds to torture her by amputating hands, then feet, then 'the part that you use for evil'. These are then sacrificed to Coatla, the Goddess of the Four Directions and Queen of Evil. The sacrifice involves removing the victim's heart, in one victim after the next until the final prostitute is despatched. After hearing of the crime, a police detective who sleeps with a whore and gets all the inside tips from her, becomes involved with trying to catch the murderer. One interesting gore scene is where one of his victims has her stomach split open and bloody organs pulled out from within.

Featuring the most harrowing chainsaw duel in film history and plenty of juicy red stuff this cult classic from New York's underground remains a graphic tongue in-cheek landmark in homemade horror from the 1980s a love letter to grisly Italian thrillers and American gore epics. We cannot be held responsible if you turn vegetarian!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986)

This wild, operatic 1986 sequel to 1974's low-budget horror hit--The Texas Chainsaw Massacre--is an extraordinary film that demonstrates just how far filmmaker Tobe Hooper had grown in the interim between the two movies. (Between the two movies, Hooper directed, among other things, the Spielberg production Poltergeist, the critically admired Lifeforce, and the spooky remake of Invaders from Mars.) In Massacre 2, Hooper enlists Dennis Hopper as a Texas Ranger seeking vengeance against the flesh-eating family that was introduced in the first film. Meanwhile, a radio deejay (Caroline Williams) is kidnapped by the family and brought to their underground lair. The performances are crazed, terrifying, and comic; the chainsaw fights are practically epic; the lighting and camera work are artful; the emotions are strong; and the ending is astounding, unparalleled in its imagery and force.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

The 2003 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre adheres to the pure and simple slasher movie formula: Introduce a gaggle of sexy young people, make vague gestures to distinguish them--Jessica Biel (Summer Catch) wants to get married and doesn't like pot, so she's our moral compass--then start hacking them to pieces one by one. The visual palette includes grimy crucified dolls, fly-specked pig carcasses, body parts floating in murky jars, a tobacco-chewing redneck sheriff, and many slender beams of sunlight cutting through dank, dusty interiors. The camera lovingly photographs Biel's tank-topped bosom and sculpted abs as she's running in terror from a bloated, chainsaw-wielding, human-skin-wearing maniac. This remake lacks the macabre comedy of the original; it's all about the nauseating sensation of waiting for something to jump out of the dark.

The Jackhammer Massacre (2004)

There’s very little wasted time with The Jackhammer Massacre, as we see Jack’s life quickly come undone. He goes from a successful businessman who likes to use drugs for recreational purposes, only to end up with a nasty habit. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning is a prequel to the recent remake of Tobe Hooper's classic 1974 splatter film, with an emphasis on the vogue for torture and bottomless depravity that characterize contemporary horror. As one might expect, The Beginning is just that, an origins tale about the Hewitt family of backwoods Texas. Step by step, we discover the source of their taste for human flesh, penchant for snaring young people passing through, and, most of all, how young Leatherface (Andrew Bryniarski) came to choose his favorite power tool and wear a mask made of someone else’s flesh. R. Lee Ermey is very effective in his perverse authority figure mode as Hoyt, the lawman who earned his badge through unorthodox means and now supplies specialized food to the Lone Star cannibals.
