Carnival
of Souls (1962)
A
story so unusual it will burn itself into your mind.
Is there death after life?
Mary Henry
is enjoying the day by riding around in a car with two friends.
When challenged to a drag race, the women accept, but are
forced off of a bridge. It appears that they have all are
drowned, until Mary amazingly emerges from the river. After
recovering, Mary then runs away to Utah and accepts a job
becoming a church organist.
Haunted
by a mysterious figure along the way. Mary is drawn to a ruined
carnival pavilion and is then haunted by visions of the dancing
dead. The eerie reasons eventually become very clear as to
what really happened at the river in which they girls fell
into.
By today’s
standards, Carnival of Souls ending is fairly obvious.
But, in it's time this film was one of the first to "do
it". This picture would inspire and influence future
directors from George Romero, David Lynch and Rod Serling.
